Research, Fact-Checking, Manuscript Evaluation and Editing
Research & Fact-Checking
We help our clients with research to support their project or provide fact-checking services to corroborate research already done for their Work.
Manuscript Evaluation & Feedback
As writers too, we know that writing is rewriting, and that is hard work! As the author, you are so close to your writing that it can be hard to spot imperfections, things to be corrected or that can be improved on.
Friends, family and colleagues might be able to review and suggest changes. But often they do not have the experience to help you find and fix the things that need to be corrected in your manuscript. We can analyze your manuscript and give you the professional feedback you need on any weaknesses, mistakes or discrepancies we spot. We make note of them to bring them to your attention so that you can make the corrections or we can provide our editing services and make the corrections for you (see our suite of editing services).

Content Editing (sometimes also referred to as Developmental Editing)
We will perform a line-edit of your manuscript reviewing for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and stylistic elements of: consistency/continuity, concept, and purpose (intent), tone and chapter/section organization. We will provide feedback and suggestions for making improvements to your Work and ensure your manuscript maintains the same point of view (POV) throughout. And if the POV does not seem appropriate for the content—will suggest an alternative viewpoint.
Content Editing helps identify incorrectly used analogies, similes, and metaphors, and if an over-used or misused one is found in your manuscript, as able will offer alternatives or suggest something different. It ensures that the content is in the correct order and that explanations are clear and will make sure that all lists, graphs, and illustrations are used effectively throughout the manuscript. It will also review if information flows cleanly from one idea to the next—and if not will suggest solutions. It will check to make sure that page number or section references match throughout your manuscript. And will bring to the attention of the author any new developments, content, facts or information that could be added to the manuscript to make it even better.
As part of our Content Editing process, we will also discuss with you (via email and scheduled phone consultations) all suggestions for improvement—this service is a collaborative one that will help author’s one-one-one with feedback on making their manuscript the best it can be.
As a final step prior to production, the manuscript will receive a beginning-to-end quality review to ensure the manuscript is editorially solid.
Note for all Book & Editing Projects:
For book project, professional editing and proofreading purposes, a standard page consists of 250 words. In a standard font, this will be approximately one typewritten, double-spaced page.
Following is an example of how to calculate the total number of pages used for our quote:
Using your word-processor, determine the total number of words in your document/manuscript
Take the total number of words and divide by 250, the result is the total number of standard pages in your document/manuscript
How our editing process works:
You provide us with your complete manuscript in a Microsoft Word format. Using Microsoft Word's "track changes" feature we will return to you a file version with all our editorial changes, suggestions, comments or recommendations for improvement. The degree and substance of these is dictated by which editing service you have requested.
You have line-item control over your Work and can accept or reject each individual editorial change made by the editor. You can choose whether to accept and use them, and whether to act on any comments or suggestions for improvement, for your manuscript.

Important Tip for Authors
As experienced writers & editors, we know that writing (and editing) is a process of refinement; as edits and changes are made, often it is best to review the manuscript again with those incorporated.
We encourage authors to consider at least two editing passes through their manuscript to enhance and improve their manuscripts. Multiple editing passes are priced at a discount and we will discuss that with you for your project.
